SUPPORTING SCOUTING

Contributing to the Pine Burr Area Council creates opportunities for youth to gain memorable experiences and become instilled with values, principles, and skills that will help them develop into the future leaders of our nation.

Over the past 100 years, Scouting has laid the foundation for millions of youth to reach their full potential.  With your help, we can ensure that today’s Scouts continue to become tomorrow’s leaders.  The Pine Burr Area Council is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and your donations are fully tax deductible to the extent allowable by law. The Pine Burr Area Council has a longstanding mission to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. We serve 17 counties across South Mississippi, providing programs to youth ages 5–20 through five dedicated districts. Our goal is to shape future leaders, grounded in character, service, and integrity.

In 2024 alone, we served 2,974 youth and supported 927 trained adult volunteers. Our Scouts earned over 2,100 merit badges, completed 1,216 community service projects, and contributed more than 3,700 hours of service to local neighborhoods. They also hiked over 6,000 miles, 39 Scouts earned Eagle Scout rank, and Scouts spent more than 2,800 nights camping—experiences that build confidence, leadership, and lifelong friendships.

All of this is possible because of generous community support. The Friends of Scouting campaign is the largest source of funding for our Council, providing 43% of our operational income. These funds directly support:

  • Year-round access to Camp Tiak, L.O. Crosby Scout Reservation

  • Leadership training for adults and youth

  • Camp scholarships for families in need

  • Council and District events

  • Maintenance of camp facilities and Scout shops

  • Recruitment resources and staff support

Our 2025 campaign goal is $552,000. Each district has set its own target to ensure Scouting remains strong and accessible across all regions. With your help, we can meet these goals and continue to invest in the next generation of leaders! As a nonprofit organization, Scouting relies on the generosity of charitable donations to support its ongoing operations and future capital expenses. Each gift, regardless of size, provides invaluable funding for programs that benefit Scouts.

Scouting changes lives. Studies show that young people who participate in Scouting for at least five years are more likely to be honest, value family, consider others before themselves, and lead confidently. These are exactly the kinds of values we need more of in our world today.

Your support—whether as a new donor, recurring contributor, or sponsor—makes a direct and lasting impact. Thank you for considering this important cause and for helping us shape a stronger, more compassionate future!
