Hello Scouts and Families,
We are excited to announce our upcoming Merit Badge Day at Ingalls Shipbuilding, taking place on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. There is no cost associated with this event.
This event will give Scouts the opportunity to earn up to two merit badges while also learning about some of the careers connected to these fields.
The eight merit badges offered in 2026 will be:
• Electricity
• Electronics
• Engineering
• Fire Safety
• Journalism
• Painting
• Plumbing
• Public Health
To register for the event, please complete the registration form here: Scout Registration Form.
When registering, please select the top four badge choices. We will do our best to place each Scout in their top two selections, but final placement will depend on class size and availability.
Please note the following important details:
• Most badges will require pre-work to complete the badge. This will be clearly indicated on the sign-up form.
• All attendees must be U.S. citizens.
• Scouts under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian sign the release form included in the registration form.
• This event is open to Scouts ages 12–17 and registration will be first-come, first-served.
As we get closer to the event, we will send additional information about classes, arrival instructions and drop-off procedures. Onsite security will be provided, and troop leaders will be onsite to provide supervision. Participating scouts must be dropped off at the event site. Parents, siblings and other guests will not be allowed to remain onsite for the event and only pre-registered attendees and troop leaders will be admitted.
We look forward to welcoming the Scouts and giving them a glimpse of just a few of the careers available here at Ingalls Shipbuilding.
If you have any questions, please reach out to CommunityRelations@hii.com.
Best regards,
Carrie Cuevas

This exciting one-day event gives Scouts the opportunity to work on high-interest environmental merit badges while learning from subject-matter experts, including educators from the Lamar Soil and Water Conservation District. In addition to merit badge offerings, Scouts may attend a special Media Literacy session taught by the Director of the College of Media, designed to build critical thinking and leadership skills.
Space in several classes will be limited, so units are encouraged to register soon in Black Pug. Please see the attached flyer for the full badge list, schedule details, and event information.
