The success of a youth-led unit rests on well-trained youth leaders that understand the principles of leadership.  You can help strengthen your unit by training qualified youth at Southeast Louisiana Council’s 2018 National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT).  The course will be held two weekends at Camp V-Bar in Perkinston, Mississippi, from August 17-19 and August 31-September 3.  You must attend both weekends to complete the course.  The cost for the course is only $200 ($175 early bird if registered by July 1, 2018).  Course fees increase by $25 if payment received after July 31, 2018.

NYLT is an exciting, action-packed, high-energy course full of Scouting skills, advanced leadership training, team building and fun. The goal is to return the Youth to their units as noticeably better scouts and leaders. The leadership skills taught are universal and can be applied to their ambitions outside of the Scouting program.

The requirements to attend are as follows:

Boy Scouts must:

  • Be at least 13 years old at the start of the course.
  • Have obtained rank of First Class or higher
  • Hold a current Leadership Position or will be a candidate in the immediate future
  • Have completed Troop Leadership Training (TLT)
  • Have Parental and Scoutmaster approval

Venturers must:

  • Be currently registered in a Venture Crew
  • 14, or 13 and have completed eighth grade.
  • Hold a current Leadership Position or will be a candidate in the immediate future
  • Have completed Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews or Ships.
  • Have Parental and Crew Advisor approval

Please observe the following registration procedures:

  • Have each interested qualifying candidate, Scoutmaster or parent complete online registration form.

Space for NYLT is limited to the first 48 registrants paid in full, so apply as early as possible. Personal resource questionnaires, Code of Conduct, and equipment lists will be mailed to each participant after their registration is received. It is suggested that units consider setting aside a partial scholarship for youth interested in attending provided they serve in a leadership capacity in the unit.
